La Tribune – De réfugié de la Syrie à boursier de 100 000$ au Cégep
Du chemin, Amar Farkouh en a parcouru depuis son départ de la Syrie en 2016. Arrivé à Sherbrooke comme réfugié avec sa famille, aujourd’hui citoyen canadien, le jeune homme de 20 ans devient le tout premier étudiant du Cégep de Sherbrooke à obtenir la bourse Loran, d’une valeur de 100 000 $, qui financera ses études universitaires. Le dossier de l’étudiant en sciences de la nature a été sélectionné parmi 5194 candidatures à travers le Canada. Le lauréat, tout comme 35 autres récipiendaires, a été retenu pour sa détermination, sa volonté de rendre service à la communauté et son leadership, entre autres.
Info Radio-Canada – Québec veut s’occuper entièrement de l’arrivée de travailleurs étrangers temporaires
Québec ne cache pas ses intentions. En raison de « lacunes » qu’il souhaite corriger, le gouvernement Legault veut s’occuper de la totalité du Programme des travailleurs étrangers temporaires (PTET), qui est un dossier géré conjointement avec Ottawa. Le ministre de l’Immigration, Simon Jolin-Barrette, a tenu cette position ferme au lendemain de la diffusion d’un reportage de Radio-Canada concernant les difficultés, pour des immigrants temporaires, de retrouver du travail, malgré leur présence au Québec et des besoins importants.
ICI Nord de l’Ontario – Apprendre de la communauté francophone pour intégrer les nouveaux arrivants
Selon des intervenants du milieu communautaire, la majorité anglophone du Nord-Ouest de l’Ontario aurait intérêt à prendre en exemple la minorité francophone lorsqu’il est question de l’intégration des nouveaux arrivants dans la région. Christian Howald, directeur régional du Nord de la Société économique de l’Ontario, en a fait la remarque lors de la conférence Viens au Nord, qui se termine jeudi à Thunder Bay et qui s’était déroulée à Temiskaming Shores la semaine dernière.
