CTV News – Canada Seeing Spike in Temporary Visas as Migrant Worker Advocates Raise Alarm

The Immigration Department’s annual plan shows that in the fiscal year that ended March 2018, officials issued more than 5.7 million temporary visas and electronic travel authorizations, an increase from the 1.3 million issued two years earlier. Federal officials say the surge is due in part to an increase in international tourism in Canada — something the federal government has been trying hard to achieve.

Montreal Gazette – Quebec Must Focus on Integrating Immigrants into Jobs: Institut Du Québec

The decision by the Legault government to reduce annual immigration levels from the present 51,000 to 40,000 will reduce Quebec’s demographic weight in Canada from today’s proportion of 22.6 per cent to 20.2 per cent by 2040, a report by the Institut du Québec contends. However the same report also notes that before worrying about how many immigrants should be permitted to enter Quebec, the provincial government should concentrate on doing a better job integrating them.
