A brash new scam on social media hijacked the identity of Canada’s immigration minister to defraud desperate refugees of thousands of dollars. The fake Facebook profile of Ahmed Hussen spelled his last name with one “s” but used the same photos the minister has on his official Facebook page. The account’s information was written in Arabic and English. Over text, the fake minister offered to help Dana Adil, an Iraqi Kurd who is a refugee in Turkey, get permanent residency in Canada — for a price.
National Post – Hundreds Rescued From Slavery in Libya Are Coming to Canada, Immigration Minister Says
Canada has begun resettling hundreds of people rescued from slavery in Libya, Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen says. Canada was “one of the few countries” to respond to a request from the United Nations refugee agency in 2017, Hussen said in an email Wednesday. More than 150 people have been resettled and another 600 more are expected over the next two years through the regular refugee settlement program, he said.
