The Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos sits on a hill covered in olive trees just a few kilometres from the island’s capital, Mytilene. Women living there and the informal settlement beside it say they are in constant fear of harassment, with most avoiding the washroom at night and limiting the number of times they leave their tents. Men dominate the public space, while women huddle together in their tents or metal containers, some rarely venturing into the main square and staying away completely at night.
CBC News – Young Refugees Face Racism in Schools, Mostly from Teachers
Young refugees and newcomers in New Brunswick say they face racism on a daily basis, usually from adults in school. That’s one of the findings in a report released recently by the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate. The workshop brought together 36 students aged 12 to 17 from all around the province for a weekend at Green Hill Lake, about 35 kilometres west of Fredericton, in November 2017.

Mayoral candidates were invited to share their ideas and positions about issues facing newcomers in Winnipeg ahead of the civic election. Immigration Partnership Winnipeg (IPW) hosted a forum on Saturday that tackled topics around immigrants, refugees and newcomers. IPW called the forum a “first-of-its kind.” The forum aimed to provide a space for immigrant and refugee community members to ask questions of candidates in respect to their positions on immigrant employment opportunities, poverty reduction, diversity-expanding initiatives and a host of other newcomer civic concerns.
