Outspoken Conservative MP and failed leadership contender Maxime Bernier is facing criticism from within his caucus, and beyond, over a series of tweets accusing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of fostering a “cult of diversity” that he believes will destroy the country. In a six-tweet thread posted Sunday evening, the Quebec MP says that more diversity will “divide us into little tribes” and bring “distrust, social conflict, and potentially violence.” He described this as “cultural balkanization.”

CBC News – ‘Heartbroken’ Family of Nigerian Man Who Died at Calgary Airport Wants Answers
The man was on board a KLM flight destined for Amsterdam Wednesday when he was involved in an altercation with two Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers who were trying to remove him from Canada prior to takeoff in Calgary. The plane was forced to return to the gate, where the Calgary police airport unit was called to the scene. Officers found the 49-year-old in medical distress. He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
CTV News – More Canadians in U.S. Overstayed Visas Than Any Other Foreigners Last Year: Report
More than 700,000 foreigners who legally entered the U.S. by sea or air last year stayed past the expiration of their visas and the top country of origin for those visa overstays was Canada, according to a new report from the Department of Homeland Security. The report, which covers the period from October 2016 to September 2017, tracked overstays by citizens of countries that require a visa to enter the U.S., as well as those that participate in the visa-waiver program.
CBC News – Project to Empower Immigrant Women Expands to Other Alberta Cities
The Stride Advocacy Project received a $50,000 grant this week from the provincial Status of Women department to branch out to Calgary, Lethbridge and St. Paul, and to offer programming to more Indigenous women. Over the past year, 221 Stride participants, mostly women from Edmonton’s Somali and Syrian communities, have been taught how to advocate for themselves, access services and navigate bureaucracies in areas such as housing, employment and education.
