Global News – N.S. Immigration Staff Heading to U.K. to Attract New Physicians to Province
Staff from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration will head to London this week to try and attract new physicians to the province. “Our pitch from the immigration perspective is to assist them and support them to actually immigrate to Canada,” Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab told reporters on Tuesday morning. In February, the Nova Scotia government announced a new immigration stream in order to attract more doctors and specialists to the province.
Globe and Mail – B.C. Immigrant Agency Sees Decline in Government-Assisted Refugees
The Immigrant Services Society of BC has reported that 642 government-assisted refugees arrived in the province last year – a number that represents one-third of the 1,911 who arrived in 2016. The target number of arrivals was 900. Chris Friesen from ISS of BC said that the immigration officials he spoke to in Ottawa last month were unable to point to any specific reason for this significant drop in arrivals.
