Reuters – IOM Expects to Fly Up to 10,000 Migrants Out of Libya in 2017

More commonly discussed in Ontario, a hotbed for the horticultural work reliant on the program, the SAWP has grown in popularity in Manitoba as horticulture operations become more common. “It’s actually increasing on an annual basis, especially for any of the farms producing vegetables where there’s more hand labour needed,” Keith Kuhl, outgoing president of the Canadian Horticulture Council, said. “For those farms, it’s absolutely crucial that they have access to temporary foreign workers.”

Toronto Star – As Refugee Numbers Surge, Federal Legal Aid Funding Shrinks

Despite a skyrocketing number of asylum claims, Ontario faces a 37 per cent funding reduction from Ottawa this year for legal services for refugee claimants. In its 2017 budget announced last week, the federal government said it would provide $62.9 million over five years — or $12.6 million annually until 2022 — for provincial legal aid services across the country to assist with asylum claims, with the budget falling back to $11.5 million a year thereafter.
