A Winnipeg school is raising money to help newcomers who can’t afford to take swimming lessons. It comes after the drowning deaths of two children whose families had immigrated to Canada from the Philippines. […] Money raised from the bake sale will go to N.E.E.D.S, Newcomer Employment Education Development Services, a resource centre for immigrants and refugees. The money will then go to a larger fundraiser called the “Burkini Pool Party” which will be held later this month.
Kelowna Now – B.C. Ranks as Top Destination for International Students
A recent release from Statistics Canada shows the number of international students coming to Canada for post-secondary studies is surging. Between 2004 and 2014, the international student population at Canadian universities almost doubled from 66,000 to 124,000. Among these students, 18 per cent chose to come to beautiful .B.C. to study.
More than 30,000 Syrian refugees have arrived in Canada since last year, but many of them are still facing significant bureaucratic delays that make integration challenging, a Senate committee heard this week. The Senate Committee on Human Rights heard Wednesday from several people who have been either sponsoring Syrian refugees or helping them start a new life in Canada. Angela Keller-Herzog, the core organizer of the Ottawa Centre Refugee Action group, told the committee that many refugees face “bureaucratic challenges” that can have ripple effects on families, their employment opportunities and overall well-being.

C’est un sujet tabou. Les personnes issues de l’immigration sont surreprésentées dans les prisons françaises. Mais en l’absence de statistiques ethniques, le sujet ne peut pas exister autrement qu’ instrumentalisé par les uns ou tu par les autres. Personne ne conteste le phénomène, qui est ancien et n’est pas propre à la France.
