CBC – Syrian Refugees Join Mini University Program at U of M

A group of Syrian refugees will be attending the University of Manitoba over the next two weeks as part of the Mini U program. The program has hosted thousands of children each summer over the past 38 years, helping them develop leadership skills and take part in new activities. This year, alongside the 800 children the program sees every day, 22 children and 14 adults who have recently come to Canada from Syria will be joining in on the fun.

CBC – Immigration Detainees on Hunger Strike Demand Meeting with Goodale

A group of immigration detainees on a hunger strike at two Ontario prisons is demanding to meet Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale. But a spokesperson for Goodale would not say on Tuesday whether the minister is prepared to meet with the detainees, reported to number more than 60. […] According to End Immigration Detention Network, the detainees went on a hunger strike earlier this year in April. CBSA officials met with them, but the group said they have not followed through on the promises they made.

Radio-Canada – Un camp d’été facilite l’intégration de jeunes immigrants à Moncton, au N.-B.

Des jeunes immigrants de la région de Moncton, au Nouveau-Brunswick, continuent d’apprendre le français pendant les mois d’été tout en s’amusant. Une soixantaine d’enfants, dont la moitié sont des réfugiés syriens, participent à un camp d’été organisé par le CAFi, un organisme qui accueille des nouveaux arrivants.
