When they were last on Canadian soil, the Pusuma family took sanctuary in a Toronto church as they fought to avoid being sent back to their native Hungary. On Thursday, 18 months after leaving Canada, Jozsef Pusuma, his wife, Timea Daroczi, and their daughter Viktoria (Lulu) were welcomed back by their loyal supporters who battled for the Roma family’s return.

CBC – Lifting Mexican Visa Rules Runs Counter to Official Advice

The Canadian government is proceeding with a campaign promise to lift the visa requirement for Mexican travellers on Dec. 1, even though public servants are warning the move comes with significant risks. Information obtained by CBC News shows government officials have cautioned Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government about proceeding ahead of a thorough review. The information includes a number of conditions Mexico should be required to meet in advance of the visa lift, including unfettered access by officers of the Canadian Border Services Agency at Mexican airports and a new information-sharing agreement between the CBSA and relevant Mexican authorities.

Students at Toronto’s “newcomer high” are scrambling to file a human rights complaint as the board gets set for a final vote on whether to close down and move their one-of-a-kind school into nearby Danforth Tech. The fate of Greenwood Secondary — which nurtures and educates newly arrived refugees and immigrants — will be decided by trustees at a meeting Wednesday night, and it is unclear how a human rights complaint could affect the board’s plans.
