Radio-Canada – Augmentation du nombre de classes de francisation à Québec

Le nombre de classes d’accueil et de francisation a doublé cette année à la Commission scolaire de la Capitale en raison du nombre grandissant de jeunes immigrants à Québec. Le nombre de groupes qui reçoivent des services du programme d’accueil et de soutien à l’apprentissage du français au primaire et au secondaire est passé de 5 à 10 en un an à la commission scolaire.

Net migration to Britain reached its second highest level on record last year, according to official data on Thursday that fed immediately into the increasingly bitter debate over whether the country should stay in the European Union.

Reuters Canada – Italy Says Migrant Boat Capsized, Second in Two Days

A migrant boat capsized in the Mediterranean on Thursday and while about 100 passengers were rescued, an unknown number are feared dead, officials said. All told, the Italian coastguard said it had helped save 4,000 migrants today, in 22 operations. That brings the total number Italy has helped rescue since Monday to more than 10,000 – a sign that Europe’s immigration crisis is far from over.

The Kingston Whig – City Can Expect More Refugees

Under the auspices of the federal government, Kingston is welcoming a new wave of Syrian refugees into the community. And the influx of Syrian families traumatized by war will present unique challenges for local service providers and institutions. The federal government announced on April 13 that four more communities outside of Quebec would be welcoming government-sponsored Syrian refugees, bringing the total number of communities to 31.

CBC – Stop Transfer of Immigration Detainees to Provincial Jails, Lawyer Tells Minister

More than 100 lawyers, legal scholars and specialists are calling on the Ontario government to cancel an agreement that allows the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to transfer immigration detainees to provincial jails, whom they say are exposed to “profoundly disturbing” conditions.

Près d’une trentaine d’employeurs du Québec participeront à la prochaine édition des Journées Québec, qui se tiendront à Paris les 28 et 29 mai prochains. Cette mission de recrutement permettra aux employeurs de pourvoir les postes pour lesquels ils n’ont pas trouvé preneurs au Québec par le recrutement de travailleuses et de travailleurs spécialisés en Europe.
