Le maire de Québec a fait de l’immigration son cheval de bataille à l’occasion de sa première rencontre avec le ministre fédéral des Finances, Bill Morneau. Régis Labeaume demande au gouvernement fédéral d’assouplir les règles pour les Français qui voudraient s’établir au Québec.

CBC – EU Refugee Policies Give Wrong Message on Humanitarian Obligations, UN Chief Says

Ever tighter restrictions on migrants and refugees in Europe are giving the wrong signal about countries’ obligations under international humanitarian law, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Thursday. Ban, the first foreign dignitary to address a session of the Austrian parliament in Vienna, expressed his concern a day after legislators passed some of Europe’s toughest asylum rules and plans for a fence at Austria’s Alpine border with Italy were unveiled.

CBC – YMCA in Nova Scotia Expands Program to Help More Immigrants

An immigration settlement program run by the YMCA has expanded its reach in Nova Scotia to include Port Hawkesbury and Kentville. Y Reach has offices across the province from Sydney to Yarmouth, and has offered assistance to immigrants since 1991, according to Barbara Miller Nix, the YMCA’s chief operating officer. Metro News Canada – Syrian Refugee Support Group Shifts Focus to ESL Classes and Job Acquisition

When the Syrian Refugee Support Group’s (SRSG) warehouse closed its doors earlier this month, the logical question is: what’s next? Sam Nammoura, co-founder of the SRSG said although they no longer have a physical community hub anymore, the group is continuing their support efforts, but now they’re shifting their focus. “There are only two ways to integrate, only two ways we can guarantee the success of the Syrian refugee resettlement in Canada—language and jobs,” he said.
