An employment specialist with the Saint John YMCA’s Newcomer Connections said she believes work can be found for the Syrian refugees resettling in New Brunswick. ‘We believe all the families that are arriving here can find employment and can find a way in the province,” said Abby David. David, an employment supervisor, said newcomers have three main priorities: settlement, language and employment, and it’s her job, along with her colleagues and volunteers, to help with the latter.

The federal government is actively looking for hotels in Ontario and New Brunswick to temporarily lodge hundreds of Syrian refugees who have arrived in Canada since Nov. 4 but are still without permanent housing, according to calls for tenders posted on a government website.
Toronto Star – McCallum to Reveal New Refugee Numbers by March 9
The Liberal government will unveil new refugee and immigration targets for the coming year before March 9, Immigration Minister John McCallum says. Speaking to reporters outside the House of Commons, McCallum said the “ballpark” estimate is that between 35,000 and 50,000 Syrian refugees are expected to arrive in Canada over the next year. “We will see when the numbers are released. It’s certainly in that ballpark, yes,” McCallum said.
