Infighting in Merkel’s ruling coalition and a unilateral decision by her interior minister on asylum policy have raised questions about the chancellor’s leadership, though coalition sources have dismissed speculation of a “putsch” against her.

Cape Breton Post – Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Awaiting Details of Syrian Refugee Arrivals

The provincial governments in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are getting ready to welcome thousands of refugees from Syria, but senior cabinet ministers in both provinces say they’re waiting for more information from the federal government, which has pledged to accept 25,000 refugees by the end of year. Nova Scotia Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab says it will likely be next week before specific numbers and financial aid are allotted to the provinces.

Much political oxygen has been sucked up by the government’s promise to bring in 25,000 Syrian refugees by Dec. 31. Indeed, it’s the top issue in a mandate letter released Friday from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to his new immigration minister, John McCallum. But the letter touches on other hot-button topics that many experts say need to be fixed.

Hospitality House Refugee Ministry, un groupe d’aide pour les réfugiés et nouveaux arrivants au Manitoba, s’inquiète du sort des personnes qui attendent déjà pour immigrer dans la province « clé de voûte » alors qu’un flot de réfugiés syriens devrait arriver dans les prochaines semaines, à la suite d’engagements des premiers ministres Trudeau et Selinger.
