The refugees’ graves are so numerous they’re right up against the walls of the cemetery. This week the mayor of Lesbos declared there is no more room for the dead. “Yesterday we held five funerals, but there are still 55 bodies at the morgue,” Spyros Galinos told a U.S. news channel. “Who could have anticipated such a carnage in the Aegean?” An estimated 435 men, women and children have died trying to reach Greece from Turkey since Oct. 6, according to the International Organization for Migration.
London Free Press – Fanshawe College Leads the Province with Seven Per Cent Jump in First-Year Enrolment
The biggest factor has been a 40 per cent increase in the number of international students this year. “Over the last four to five years, the growth (in international students) has been quite stunning,” said Tony Frost, executive director of Fanshawe’s reputation and brand management. “From a London perspective, it’s great because some of them will go home, but others will stay.” Frost said the biggest contingent of foreign students comes from India, China and South Korea.

Of the 160,000 refugees that European Union member states promised to take in from Italy and Greece as part of emergency measures introduced in September, 116 have been relocated thus far. On Wednesday, the European Commission released data breaking down the various temporary relocation commitments made by countries for the next two years to alleviate some of the pressures facing Greece and Italy.
CBC – Manitoba Social Agencies Gear Up for Syrian Refugee Arrival
Social services providers who help refugees in Manitoba are bracing for a surge of newcomers, with at least two organizations not allowing vacation time for their staff until Canada’s response to the Syrian crisis is complete. Newcomers Employment and Education Development Services (NEEDS Inc.) and Welcome Place have made the move in response to an anticipated influx of refugees fleeing the conflict in Syria.

Refugees and migrants are likely to keep coming to Europe at a rate of up to 5,000 per day via Turkey this winter, the United Nations said on Thursday, meaning that more than a million people will have fled to the continent this year.
