Radio-Canada – Aide possible de 3 milliards d’euros à la Turquie pour accueillir les réfugiés

L’Union européenne envisage d’octroyer environ 3 milliards d’euros à la Turquie pour l’aider à garder les réfugiés syriens sur son sol et les empêcher d’affluer en Europe, a déclaré vendredi Angela Merkel. S’exprimant lors d’un sommet de l’UE consacré notamment à la coopération avec Ankara sur cette question des réfugiés, la chancelière allemande a ajouté que les dirigeants européens avaient convenu de relancer le processus d’adhésion de la Turquie à l’UE et d’ouvrir de nouveaux chapitres de discussions.

The Express Entry Permanent Residence program has two main problems: One problem is unreliable and unstable software. The other problem is the severe lack of transparency in the application process. […] Since January 1, 2015 to July 6, 2015 exactly 112,701 people have applied for Express Entry. Of those applicants, only 844 permanent resident visas have been issued to applicants and their dependants.

The Globe and Mail – TPP Deal Contains Some Exemptions on Temporary Foreign Workers

The Globe and Mail has confirmed that the deal, like Canada’s existing trade pacts, contains provisions that would make it easier for companies from TPP countries to bring temporary foreign workers to their operations in Canada. Employers from some of those countries would also be exempt from a wage floor Ottawa established in 2014 to ensure foreign workers on intracompany transfers are paid the prevailing wage for their occupation.

Toronto Star – The Canadian at the Forefront of Europe’s Refugee Crisis [Interview]

Federico Soda came to Canada with his family from Italy in 1981 at age 9. The former Toronto labour lawyer joined the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Sarajevo in 2001. He is now director of its Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, based in Rome, responsible for the arrival of migrants by sea. He oversees work on unaccompanied minors, protection of victims of trafficking and improvement of services and conditions in migrant reception centres.
