Calgary Herald – Immigrants Give Canadian History Exam’s “Picky” Questions a Failing Grade

Prospective immigrants who took this country’s new citizenship test and were then asked about the experience in focus groups have met at least one key criteria for being Canadian: They’ve echoed complaints from native-born citizens that questions requiring them to memorize “specific names and dates” from Canada’s early history seem picky and pointless.

Hamilton Spectator – Halton Police Get Acquainted with New Canadians

Emergency Services Information to New Canadians Day […] is run by Halton police’s diversity unit and was launched in 2005. It works with the Halton Multicultural Council, Halton regional police, municipal fire departments and emergency services to give interactive presentations to (ESL) and Enhanced Language Training (ETL) classes. Presentations are done by officers on duty and include information on how to access police, fire and/or ambulance services; what to expect in an emergency and the role of the police in the community.

Cape Breton Post – “Good Economic Case” for Removing Immigration Cap

Provincial and territorial ministers of immigration will meet with their federal counterpart Jason Kenney later this month in Toronto. Citizenship and Immigration Canada – Minister Kenney Announces Citizenship Judge Appointment

John Dennison has been appointed as a Citizenship Judge in Ottawa for a three-year full-time term, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today. The appointment will be effective October 23, 2012. […] Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada – Minister Kenney Announces Appointment to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation

Raoul Nembhard has been appointed to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s Board of Directors for a three-year part-time term, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today. The CRRF is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of a Chair and up to 11 other directors appointed by the Governor in Council.
