You neither have to be a bigot nor fearful of foreigners to understand the math, though.

Les demandes d’asile ont poursuivi leur lancée, et déjà dépassé, en novembre, le record établi en 2022. Les données publiées mercredi, portant sur les 11 premiers mois de l’année, montrent que le Québec a accueilli 59 735 demandeurs d’asile, contre 51 635pour la même période en 2022, une hausse de 16 %. Pour toute l’année 2022, 58 805 demandeurs d’asile ont fait leur arrivée au Québec.

Comme elles doivent renoncer au passeport de leur pays d’origine, les personnes ayant obtenu le statut de réfugié sont contraintes de demander un titre de voyage spécial pour sortir du Canada. Or, Le Devoir a appris que les délais pour l’obtenir explosent : plus de 20 000 demandes de titre de voyage pour réfugiés (TVR) sont toujours en traitement, dont environ la moitié ont dépassé les délais garantis de 20 jours ouvrables. Certains réfugiés devant quitter le Canada d’urgence, notamment pour assister à des funérailles, attendent même depuis plus d’un an leur TVR.
