Radio-Canada – Un nombre record d’inscriptions d’élèves issus de l’immigration à Montréal

Les écoles montréalaises doivent non seulement faire face à la pénurie de personnel comme partout ailleurs en province, mais elles ont un défi supplémentaire : il y a environ deux fois plus d’élèves inscrits dans les classes d’accueil pour la rentrée scolaire. Les écoles de la métropole font des pieds et des mains ces jours-ci pour s’assurer que tous les élèves issus de l’immigration seront scolarisés cette année. Les centres de services scolaires de Montréal (CSSDM) et de la Pointe-de-l’Île (CSSPI) entament la rentrée avec un record d’inscriptions dans leurs classes d’accueil, soit environ le double de l’an dernier.

Le Devoir – Plus de places en haltes-garderies pour franciser plus de mères immigrantes

Le gouvernement du Québec investira plus d’un demi-million dans les haltes-garderies pour permettre à plus de parents immigrants, surtout des mères, de se franciser. La subvention de 675 000 $, dont la grande majorité provient du ministère de la Famille, servira à financer des places en haltes-garderies dans les organismes communautaires et les établissements d’enseignement de quatre régions du Québec, dont Montréal et la Côte-Nord, offrant de la francisation.

CTV News – Quebec to Expand Drop-In Daycare for Parents Who Are in French Lessons

Quebec is launching a program to improve access to daycares for immigrant parents taking French-language courses. The idea is to facilitate the process of learning French for newcomers with young children. The province will put out a targeted call for projects, in which drop-in daycare centres in the Montreal, Côte-Nord, Capitale-Nationale and Montérégie regions will be able to participate, the Ministère de la Famille announced on Thursday.

CBC News – Finding Housing in Hamilton an ‘Awful’ and ‘Stressful’ Task for Incoming International Students

A record 550,150 international student study permits were issued last year, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). That’s a 75 per cent increase from just five years ago. The IRCC says it’s reviewing its international student program, with the federal housing minister saying Monday the federal government is considering a cap on the number of international students to ease the pressure on the housing market.

CBC News – Returning Home Amid the War: Why Some Ukrainians Are Choosing to Leave Toronto

However, Andrei Zavialov, a settlement worker with the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services Toronto, told CBC News he personally knows of about 15 Ukrainians who have returned home from the Greater Toronto Area already. Zavialov’s survey found “parents, family, and relatives” were the main factor motivating respondents to go back. Other motivating factors included love for their homes and missing life in Ukraine.

National Post – More Canadian Agricultural Producers Denounce ‘Mass’ Foreign Worker Application Rejections

Struggling to find workers, agricultural operators are sounding the alarm over problems with Canada’s immigration bureaucracy. This week, the Canadian Mushroom Growers’ Association echoed concerns expressed last week by KT Ranches in National Post, claiming chronic and often inexplicable rejections of temporary foreign worker applications by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) are creating grief for farmers.
