Le Centre francophone du Grand Toronto (CFGT) élargit ses services d’immigration aux nouveaux arrivants francophones en Ontario avec l’ajout du service « pré-départ », qui leur permet de recevoir de l’information et du soutien avant leur arrivée au pays. Depuis le 10 juillet, le CFGT offre donc désormais les trois étapes-clés du parcours d’établissement de l’immigrant que sont le pré-départ, l’accueil et l’intégration. L’ajout de service pré-départ, rendu possible grâce à l’appui financier du ministère fédéral, s’adresse aux futurs résidents permanents francophones, y compris certains réfugiés.

Le nouveau ministre du Logement et de l’Infrastructure du Canada affirme que fermer la porte aux nouveaux arrivants n’est pas la solution aux problèmes de logement du pays, et a plutôt dit vouloir favoriser la construction de plus de maisons pour composer avec des flux d’immigration plus élevés. La forte croissance démographique due à l’immigration accroît la pression sur la demande de logements, à un moment où le pays est aux prises avec une crise d’abordabilité.

Global News – Hamilton Seeks $9M to House Refugees Trickling Down from Toronto and Other Communities
Andrea Horwath says the city saw some 200 arrive last week alone from other municipalities despite Hamilton not being a typical host community for refugees. “There’s no room left in Toronto for folks and so they’re coming to other communities,” Horwath said. “It’s important that we do our part, that we step up and provide support. But we can’t go it alone … we need the help of the federal government.”

Montreal-area MP Marc Miller started working in the Indigenous affairs portfolio in 2018, as parliamentary secretary to then-minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, Carolyn Bennett. He entered cabinet as minister of Indigenous Services in 2019 and took the reins at Crown-Indigenous Relations in 2021. He was sworn in Wednesday as minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
