CTV News – Feds Announce New Digital Nomad Strategy for Foreign Workers
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser introduced a new strategy to attract digital talent to Canada, which includes a digital nomad program that allows more foreigners to live and work here. There’s a program in place already allowing foreigners who receive a job offer to transition to a Canadian work permit. But Fraser said under the digital nomad strategy, a tech worker with a job at a foreign employer could arrive in Canada today, and continue to work for that employer.
CBC News – More than 300 Health-Care Workers from Philippines Have Accepted Jobs in Manitoba, Province Says
More than 300 already-trained health-care workers from the Philippines have accepted offers to come work in Manitoba, the provincial government says. The offers were given to 348 health-care workers who were interviewed and passed a screening process during a five-day recruitment mission to the Philippines in February, the province said Tuesday. The workers are expected to take jobs in 31 different Manitoba communities after they complete immigration and licensing requirements, Manitoba Labour and Immigration Minister Jon Reyes said.
Alberta was poised to become the first Canadian province to stop incarcerating migrants detained by Ottawa for administrative reasons but instead extended its contract with the federal government three days before the previous contract was set to expire. Its agreement on immigration detention was to end on June 30, 2023, followed by British Columbia at the end of July. But the federal government and the two provinces have agreed to respective contract extensions: Alberta until Sept. 29, 2023 and B.C. until Oct. 31, 2023.

Le ministère de l’Immigration de la Saskatchewan a congédié certains de ses employés après que ces derniers eurent accédé à des dossiers de candidats à l’immigration de manière illicite. La province n’a toutefois pas précisé le nombre d’employés qui ont perdu leur emploi en lien avec cette affaire.Cette découverte fait suite à une enquête initiale qui a révélé qu’un ex-employé avait accédé à 40 dossiers dans le cadre d’un projet présumé d’immigration illégale. L’employé a démissionné le 8 août 2022.
Le taux de surqualification est élevé chez toutes les catégories de résidents non permanents, RNP dans le jargon de l’administration fédérale. Au Québec, il atteint 56 % chez les demandeurs. Il est de 36 % chez les titulaires d’un permis d’études et de 44 % chez ceux qui ont un permis de travail et d’études. Fait étonnant : ce taux est semblable chez les diplômés ayant obtenu leur titre de compétence à l’étranger et ceux l’ayant obtenu au Canada, note Statistique Canada.

Human rights organizations are calling on the Canadian government to end its controversial practice of holding immigration detainees in provincial jails. The letter’s signatories include at least 40 Canadian and international organizations, such as Amnesty International Canada and Toronto’s Rexdale Community Legal Clinic, which advocate for the rights of migrants and refugee claimants.
