A researcher at the University of New Brunswick has launched a study to better understand the social and cultural barriers Arabic-speaking refugees face in getting mammograms. David Busolo, an assistant professor in the faculty of nursing, said he started by trying to find out who has the most barriers and least access to breast-cancer screening. He identified Arabic-speaking refugee women.

Mais les militants du parti, réunis en congrès, ont rejeté samedi deux propositions qui auraient lié l’absence de ces pouvoirs pour le gouvernement québécois avec une menace à la « cohésion sociale ». Les élus bloquistes sont bien conscients du risque que ce choix de mot ne leur attire mauvaise presse. « L’immigration n’est pas un problème. C’est le manque dans la façon de les intégrer, au gouvernement, qui est le problème », a expliqué M. Trudel par la suite au Devoir.

Around 240 newcomers from across the globe attended the 18th annual Manito Ahbee powwow in Winnipeg on Saturday to experience and learn about Indigenous culture. They filled four Winnipeg Transit buses to attend the powwow at Assiniboia Downs, which began on Friday and runs until Sunday. Dalila Lokwa, originally from Congo, attended the event with her mother and 18-month-old daughter, Shamsa Yahyaoui. She said it was their first time seeing a powwow.
Global News – European Immigrants Who Came to Halifax After WWII Return 75 Years Later
Seventy-five years ago, Matija Sedej and Henrik Ziernfield felt the breeze of the Halifax Harbour for the first time. The two were passengers on a cargo ship titled the SS Marine Jumper which fled a European continent dealing with the aftermath of the Second World War and arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax on May 19, 1948. The ship originally departed 10 days earlier on May 9 from Bremerhaven, Germany. On Friday, they returned to Pier 21 in Halifax to commemorate the anniversary.
