According to the report, about two-third (67) per cent of Canadians surveyed reported having a high level of confidence in the police, while the level of confidence is lower for justice system and courts (51 per cent), the federal Parliament (36 per cent) and the Canadian media (33 per cent). However, recent immigrants are most likely to report high level of confidence in the Canadian media and Parliament.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police identified two of the eight migrants whose bodies were pulled from the St. Lawrence River earlier this week, but said Saturday they’re still searching for a local resident whose boat was found near the victims. Akwesasne straddles the Canada-U.S. border, with parts of the territory in Ontario, Quebec and New York state.

Police say the bodies of eight migrants have been retrieved from the waters off the Mohawk Territory of Akwesasne, straddling the Canada – U.S. border. The bodies, recovered Thursday and Friday, consisted of two families of Romanian and Indian origins who were likely trying to enter the U.S. illegally, police said Friday. Two children are among the dead.

Indian authorities have arrested a travel agent accused of forging the student visa documents of dozens of international students who are currently facing removal orders from Canada due to misrepresentation in their applications. A spokesperson for the Police Commissionerate at Jalandhar, Punjab, confirmed with The Fifth Estate that Rahul Bhargava, of the firm Education and Migration Services, was arrested and that they are still looking for his partners, Brijesh Mishra and Gurnam Singh.
