Twelve immigrants told their stories in videos as part of an online exhibition about the lives and history of newcomers in Hamilton. The idea was originally conceived more than a year ago by the Hamilton Civic Museums and the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council for the city’s 175 birthday, said Natasha Hernandez, a spokesperson for the project with the City of Hamilton.

La Ville de Montréal a reconnu en juin 2020 le racisme systémique. Elle a créé dans la foulée son Bureau de la lutte au racisme et aux discriminations systémiques puis s’est engagée l’an dernier à « devenir un employeur exemplaire » en la matière. Dans le cadre de cette enquête, une trentaine d’employés racisés ont confié au Devoir avoir été victimes de racisme ou de discrimination. Experts et syndicats estiment que, malgré les engagements de la Ville, la situation n’a pas vraiment changé sur le terrain.
Ottawa a été forcé de revoir en urgence le contrat octroyé à une firme privée pour la surveillance du seul centre de détention de migrant au Québec après une série de cafouillages. Manque d’équipements, d’agents, de formation : la liste des récriminations visant l’agence privée Neptune Security concernant son mandat au Centre de surveillance de l’immigration (CSI) de Laval est longue, selon diverses sources et documents obtenus par Radio-Canada.

Le gouvernement fédéral cherche à identifier d’autres communautés en Ontario qui seraient prêtes à accueillir des demandeurs d’asile qui passent par le chemin Roxham. En date du 13 février, ce sont près de 5 557 migrants irréguliers qui ont été envoyés vers l’Ontario, principalement à Cornwall et à Niagara Falls. La municipalité de Cornwall se dit délaissée par Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada (IRCC). La Nouvelle-Écosse a reçu 134 de ces demandeurs d’asile tandis que le Nouveau-Brunswick en a accueilli 57.
