Radio-Canada – Québec octroie 3,5M$ pour soutenir les migrants en situation précaire

D’autres organismes pourraient éventuellement être soutenus dans un deuxième temps, ont annoncé les ministres Rouleau et Fréchette. Le gouvernement du Québec débloque une aide d’urgence de 3,5 M$ aux organismes communautaires qui soutiennent les demandeurs d’asile. La gestion du fonds de 3 millions de dollars est confiée à Centraide du Grand Montréal qui répartira les sommes entre les 22 organismes concernés. La gestion se fera avec la collaboration de la Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes (TCRI).

Des dentistes canadiens qui ont été formés à l’étranger disent se heurter à une série incroyable d’obstacles pour faire reconnaître leurs compétences au pays. Ils demandent au Bureau national d’examen de la dentisterie de revoir le coût, le nombre et la difficulté des examens auxquels ils sont soumis. Ils étaient une trentaine au square Dundas de Toronto, dimanche, agitant des pancartes avec des slogans comme Laissez-nous travailler ou Tout ce qu’on demande c’est une évaluation équitable.

CBC News – How a New Nigerian Museum in Winnipeg Is Strengthening a Community

Inside a small blue house on a residential street in Winnipeg’s St. Vital area are rooms filled with leather-bound African drums, shekere — a wooden West African percussion instrument — and irukere, which translates to “horsetails.” Despite its location, this is not a regular home — this house is Asa Day, a new museum dedicated to Nigerian culture. Founded by Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye late last year, it’s unique to the city.

Global News – Black Youth Gather at Calgary Event to Help Empower Immigrants

Dozens of youth with East African backgrounds gathered at the Centre for Newcomers in Calgary on Saturday during an event aimed at helping them achieve their full potential. As the executive director of the Immigrant Outreach Society (IOS) — a black led non-for-profit organization that provides culturally appropriate mental health intervention for ethnic minorities from East Africa — Adi Eyassu Sahilie has organized the “Stepping Into Your Future” black youth event. The event on Saturday was aimed at connecting youth from East Africa to services they might not otherwise access.

Toronto Star – Why Doesn’t Canada Treat Afghan Refugees Like Ukrainians? Because They Aren’t ‘White and Christian,’ Complaint Alleges

Afghan-Canadians are formally accusing the federal government of discrimination over the difference between immigration programs for Afghans and Ukrainians trying to flee violence in their home countries. Four men who deployed with the Canadian military to Afghanistan filed a complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal after their families were left out of the special immigration program created in 2021 to help resettle Afghans with a connection to Canada.

Toronto Star – A Canadian Senator Helped Save Afghan Women. The Immigration Department Called Police on Her

A Manitoba senator is defending herself against federal allegations she sent “inauthentic” documents in the summer of 2021 to help Afghan women get past Kabul airport checkpoints, revealing that the travel documents came from a top aide to Canada’s then-defence minister for that purpose. Sen. Marilou McPhedran said George Young, chief of staff to former minister Harjit Sajjan, provided a “facilitation letter for travel” featuring the Government of Canada logo and a Global Affairs Canada seal.
