National Post – Refugee Says Canada Deporting Him So Russia Can Force Him to Fight Against Ukraine

Canada is set to deport a 51-year-old failed refugee claimant to likely mobilization in the Russian army’s invasion of Ukraine, and has dismissed his fears about being used as “cannon fodder” by relying on an old article from the Russia Today propaganda outlet, the National Post has learned. “For me the choice will be simple,” said Timurdzhan Nazhmetdinov in an interview. “I will either have to go to the war to fight against the Ukrainian people, or I will end up in jail for refusing to go to war.”

CTV News – China Accuses Canada of ‘Politically Manipulating’ with Uyghur Refugee Vote

The Chinese government says a motion MPs passed Wednesday to provide asylum to persecuted Uyghurs amounts to political manipulation by Canada. MPs including Prime Mister Justin Trudeau unanimously called on Ottawa to design a program that would bring 10,000 people of Turkic origin, including Uyghurs, to Canada from countries other than China.

CTV News – Migrant Workers Sneak Secret Menus into Canadian Restaurants to Expose Exploitation

Hundreds of customers who scan QR codes for restaurant menus across Canada are being surprised by secret menus instead, revealing the hidden costs behind the food they eat. These secret menus were designed and distributed by Migrant Workers Alliance for Change, a national organization headquartered in Toronto, aiming to expose exploitative working conditions: low wages, unsafe labour, poor housing, family separation, and long days of backbreaking labour.

Western News – Expert Insight: New Regulations on Migrant Farm Workers Should Tackle Power Imbalances

The government of Canada recently amended the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations to include new employer obligations. These amendments are intended to enhance protections for migrant workers and ensure the integrity of the government’s temporary foreign worker program. While a step in the right direction, the changes side-step the root issues that make temporary foreign workers vulnerable to abuse in the first place.
