CTV News – U.S. Borrows Page from Canada for New Refugee Resettlement Program
The United States is introducing a new private refugee sponsorship program that’s based on a similar system in Canada. State Department officials say the Canadian model helped inspire and inform the design and implementation of the U.S. program, known as the Welcome Corps. The U.S. describes the program, which will allow ordinary Americans to privately sponsor refugees, as the boldest innovation in refugee resettlement in four decades.
Globe and Mail – Mayors Call on Federal Government, Ontario to Fund Ukrainian Newcomers’ Resettlement Efforts
The municipal leaders say in a joint statement that almost 2,000 people from 750 households have accessed emergency housing and other services through a project to co-ordinate efforts to support Ukrainian newcomers. They say the governments of Canada and Ontario had assured them that support for Ukrainian newcomers was coming but dedicated funding sought by the municipalities has yet to arrive.

Mander was tasked with everything, from comprehending medical appointments to ordering take out. Now 26, she says the experience forced her to step into adult life early. Mander is considered a ‘translator kid’ — children asked to be interpreters for their families from a young age.
