In 2019, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu was sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm in the Saskatchewan crash that killed 16 people and injured 13 others. The Canada Border Services Agency recommended in March that Sidhu be handed over to the Immigration and Refugee Board to decide whether he should be deported to India. Michael Greene, Sidhu’s lawyer, said all written arguments with the Federal Court were filed in July, adding that no news can be good news when waiting for the court to make its decision.

But since coming back to Canada in 2019, red tape and a wrong turn that saw them accidentally cross into the U.S. through a small B.C. town while attempting to meet with Canadian border officials, led to orders that they leave Canada. Returning to Ireland is not an option, the family says, as this could put Adam, 19, in jeopardy.

Ainsi, la ministre des Langues officielles, Ginette Petitpas Taylor, la présidente du Conseil du Trésor, Mona Fortier, le ministre du Patrimoine canadien, Pablo Rodriguez, ainsi que le ministre de l’Immigration, des Réfugiés et de la Citoyenneté, Sean Fraser, devront comparaître pendant une heure chacun.
La Presse – Québec octroie 10 millions à la Croix-Rouge canadienne
La ministre de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration, Christine Fréchette, a annoncé mercredi l’octroi de 10 millions du gouvernement du Québec à la Croix-Rouge canadienne (CRC) afin de soutenir l’organisme dans l’accueil et l’hébergement temporaire des personnes ressortissantes ukrainiennes. Dans un communiqué diffusé mercredi par le cabinet de la ministre, le MIFI a précisé que ce soutien financier vise à couvrir différents frais encourus, notamment par rapport au logement, à l’éducation des enfants, à la couverture du régime d’assurance maladie du Québec et aux cours de francisation.
