Trudeau en arrivant à la réunion du caucus libéral.
La Presse – Québec utilise une fraction des fonds venant d’Ottawa
Le Québec utilise une infime partie des fonds qui lui sont versés annuellement par le gouvernement fédéral pour l’aider à franciser et intégrer les immigrants qui arrivent sur son territoire. Le gouvernement fédéral a transféré une somme record de 697 millions de dollars à Québec durant l’exercice financier 2021-2022 en vertu d’une formule de calcul incluse dans l’Accord Canada-Québec sur l’immigration. Or, le gouvernement Legault a consacré moins de 25 % de cette somme, soit 168,2 millions de dollars, pour les services de francisation durant le dernier exercice financier.

The federal government, Legault told reporters Wednesday, needs to understand that Quebec is facing a “special challenge” to preserve the French language. His comments were in reaction to Ottawa’s announcement on Tuesday that it intends to welcome about 500,000 annual newcomers to Canada by 2025. By comparison, the federal Immigration Department said 405,000 permanent residents were admitted last year.
