Cette année, le pays accueillera 45 000 réfugiés, une augmentation considérable par rapport aux 23 500 prévus, a annoncé le ministre de l’Immigration, Marco Mendicino, a annoncé en conférence de presse. Ce plan prévoit accélérer le processus d’application et augmenter le nombre de réfugiés admis au pays. Plus de 40 000 personnes protégées et leur famille habitent au Canada en attendant de devenir résidents permanents. Jusqu’à ce jour, cette année, 17 900 personnes se sont fait octroyer ce statut.

The indefinite nature of Canada’s immigration detention system is causing psychological harm for thousands of people detained every year, including refugee claimants, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch said in a new report on Thursday. The report, titled “Immigration Detention in Canada and its Impact on Mental Health”, said immigration detainees are handcuffed, shackled and subjected to solitary confinement, among other harsh conditions.
CBC News – Canada-Led Conference Raises Money for Displaced Venezuelans
A pledging conference for Venezuelan refugees chaired by Canada today raised about US$1.55 billion in grants and loans to help countries dealing with the world’s largest displacement crisis after Syria. International Development Minister Karina Gould chaired the conference, which saw countries from Asia, Europe and the Americas announce what they were prepared to donate or loan to meet the steep cost of feeding and sheltering Venezuelans who have taken part in a vast exodus from the country under the current government of Nicolas Maduro.

Mohammad Jadallah is one of more than a dozen refugees in Canada who have been separated from their loved ones in war-ravaged Gaza for more than two years, desperate for the federal government to help their families escape the threat of violence back home. It’s a situation all the more urgent now, after Israel once again mounted airstrikes in Gaza on Wednesday — the first since a ceasefire ended 11 days of fighting in May. The Israeli military said incendiary balloons had been launched from the Palestinian territory.

Une étude menée par l’Institut Cooper avec les universités Dalhousie en Nouvelle-Écosse et Saint-Thomas au Nouveau-Brunswick révèle les mauvaises conditions de vie des travailleurs étrangers temporaires dans les secteurs de l’agriculture et de l’industrie du poisson à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Le mal-logement est l’une des plus problématiques majeures selon le rapport. Le rapport révèle qu’en 2020, le ministère de la Santé et du Mieux-être de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard a effectué 64 inspections de logements. Dans la moitié des cas, de nombreux manquements ont été identifiés.
ICI Toronto – L’Ontario fait un petit pas pour pallier la pénurie d’enseignants francophones
Pour pallier la pénurie de personnel enseignant francophone en Ontario, le Groupe de travail fait un total de 37 recommandations en trois phases. La première phase doit commencer cette année, selon le rapport, avec la mise en place de 13 recommandations prioritaires. Elle doit permettre d’attirer des enseignants francophones de l’étranger, de faciliter l’accès et aux formations pour ce métier ainsi que leurs programmes, et de retenir les enseignants déjà en place.
