Des accusations de fraude visent trois individus qui sont derrière plusieurs collèges privés du Québec. « De faux documents auraient été utilisés par des individus qui œuvraient au sein [de la Commission scolaire Lester-B.-Pearson] pour favoriser ou accélérer de façon illégale le traitement et l’obtention de permis pour des étudiants », a indiqué mercredi le procureur de la Couronne Louis-Philippe Meek Baillot aux journalistes présents au palais de justice de Montréal.
CBC News – ‘I Never Wanted to Leave Canada’: COVID-19 Delaying Permanent Resident Applications
Katherine Scott, who is from Australia, always wanted to live in Canada But, instead, she’s packing her belongings to go live with her parents in the United Kingdom. In a statement, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said as the pandemic unfolded, it encouraged temporary residents living in Canada to renew their status or permits. The ministry also extended the length of time a temporary resident has to do so. But, Scott’s type of work permit can only be extended under “very specific situations,” according to the IRCC’s website.
CBC News – Delays in Visa Processing Worry Immigrants
Long wait times are still affecting hundreds of immigrants applying to renew their visas here in New Brunswick. IRCC says the pandemic has complicated processes and led to the delays. In a statement, a spokesperson said IRCC has prioritized vulnerable people, family members seeking to reunite, and essential workers. It said it is also working to process more applications virtually. But Rayanne Ribas worries that because of the delays, she won’t have her visa renewed before her current one expires and she or her husband will fall into “implied status” again.
Global News – Truck Driver in Humboldt Broncos Crash Awaits Deportation Decision
A former truck driver who caused the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash has submitted paperwork with reasons why he should not be sent back to India when he gets out of prison. Jaskirat Singh Sidhu is now waiting for the Canada Border Services Agency to write a report that will recommend whether he be allowed to stay in his adopted country or be deported. A grieving father of one of the hockey players killed will be waiting, too. Scott Thomas said he aches everyday for his 18-year-old son, Evan, but submitted a letter in support of Sidhu.
CTV News – How a Nigerian Immigrant’s YouTube Videos Are Helping Other Newcomers Adapt to Saskatoon
The Open Door Society is currently seeing about six to eight families a month. Ian Shaw with the Open Door Society says before the pandemic, they would see about 3,700 newcomer families coming in per year and in March when the pandemic started, they saw a big drop. Numbers have come up since then. Jessica Liao, youth program facilitator, tells CTV News that a video project helps youth express themselves through technology. The videos are posted to YouTube. Making videos is popular with another newcomer from Nigeria, Marina lyeme-Eteng.
