A Whistler, B.C., man is pleading with the federal government to allow his terminally ill wife a visit with her sister before she dies. Arthur Santiago’s wife Charie has Stage 4 cancer and has been told she may not have much time left to live. But a request to allow the 38-year-old’s sister to visit from the Philippines has been denied by Immigration Canada. “My wife only has so much time,” he said. “I’m pretty sure anybody would want to see their family.”

Après plus de 20 mois de préparation, la famille est enfin arrivée à sa nouvelle terre d’accueil. Leur arrivée a été un peu plus compliquée que prévu en raison de changements d’itinéraires. En effet, alors que les Joffroy avaient planifié atterrir au pays à Montréal, ils sont plutôt entrés à Toronto en faisant un crochet par la Suisse.

Près de 300 réfugiés rohingyas sont arrivés sur les côtes indonésiennes lundi après des mois d’errance en haute mer, l’un des débarquements les plus importants dans l’archipel de membres de cette minorité musulmane persécutée en Birmanie. Ces réfugiés rohingyas, partis de camps du Bangladesh en février, ont passé sept mois en mer, selon des témoignages recueillis par l’agence des Nations unies pour les réfugiés (UNHCR), qui estime à 30 ceux qui sont morts en cours de voyage.
