Stephanie Plante, executive director of the International Commission of Jurists Canada, explained to Global News that both stem from a similar idea that Quebec should have more control over who lives in the province. While Plante said she has concerns about the test, she noted the test doesn’t have the same life-changing ramifications as the religious symbols ban.
CBC News – Job Fair Specifically for Refugees Gives Hope to Those Having Trouble Finding Work
The fair, dubbed First-of-its-Kind Refugee Hiring Event, was put on by Starbucks Canada, together with the TENT Partnership for Refugees. Nearly 150 newcomers with various backgrounds came to the fair. They got to sit down with 15 different prospective employers, including Ikea, Starbucks and FedEx. All of the companies were chosen because they expressed an interest in hiring refugees and between them, have about 100 positions that need to be filled immediately. The hope is to bring similar refugee job fairs to cities across Canada.

The tribunal responsible for disciplining lawyers in Ontario has asked the courts whether Canada’s refugee board is in contempt for failing to produce certain documents. The request comes in the case of Toronto immigration lawyer, Richard Odeleye, accused by three former clients of sexual harassment. They allege he made unwelcome sexual advances and comments, or touched them inappropriately, prompting professional misconduct allegations and a disciplinary hearing.

La requête concerne l’avocat de l’immigration torontois Richard Odeleye, accusé par trois anciennes clientes de harcèlement sexuel. Les plaignantes allèguent que l’avocat a fait des avances non sollicitées et a formulé des commentaires sexuels importuns, ou les a touchées de manière inappropriée, ce qui a entraîné des allégations de faute professionnelle et une audience disciplinaire du Barreau.

Non seulement le taux de rétention des immigrants investisseurs est-il « famélique », a-t-il dit, mais encore « l’intégrité » du programme est maintenant compromise.
