Gina Cody arrived in Montreal in 1979 with $2,000 in her pocket. Her homeland of Iran was in the throes of a revolution. She got a toehold in her new country thanks to a scholarship in engineering at Concordia University. Forty years later, Dr. Cody is giving back. The 61-year-old is donating $15-million to her alma mater, a gift that will be used to increase diversity in a traditionally male-dominated field. The Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science becomes the first engineering faculty in Canada to be named after a woman.

« C’est simple, nous avons besoin davantage d’immigrants », tranche Pierre Dolbec, le président du conseil d’administration de l’association qui regroupe 3100 entreprises situées dans les 26 zones et parcs industriels de la région de Québec. Les industriels réclament plus d’investissements en matière de formation de la main-d’oeuvre pour permettre aux travailleurs d’occuper des emplois qui sont de plus en plus spécialisés.

CTV News – Border Security Minister Engages U.S. in Formal Safe Third Country Talks
In an interview with Evan Solomon, host of CTV’s Question Period, Blair said he has sent a letter to United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen asking to start their discussions about how to change the more-than-decade-old agreement to better address the issues at the Canada-U.S. border. Calls to renegotiate the agreement have come from both the NDP and Conservatives in the wake of a steady flow of asylum seekers coming into Canada from the U.S. over the last few years.
