Internal e-mails from the Immigration department dating back to 2016 show officials were hoping the launch of the new guide could coincide with Canada 150 celebrations and the 70th anniversary of the Citizenship Act – events that took place over a year ago. But so far, no official guide has materialized.
Over the last five years, there’s been a big increase in the number of young Irish workers, students and visitors to Canada. He said he’s noticed a huge increase in Vancouver’s Irish population, particularly in the summer.
Dozens of international business students at St. Clair College are caught up in red tape with Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada. The rules state international students have 90 days to apply after graduation to work in Canada. Where the problem begins is with a second program, a four-month long program marketed by the college to take in conjunction with the business management program. The college told students they would still qualify for the work permit even if they waited until after they’re done the logistics program before applying.

New public opinion research published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada suggests officials there are considering whether Canadians should be able to renew their passport via a mobile application, as well as what Canadians’ attitudes are towards the idea of using virtual or mobile passports. In 15 focus groups held across the country earlier this year, there was general enthusiasm but also a marked wariness about the potential for misuse.
