Six-in-10 Canadians chose “disagree” when asked the question “Are immigration levels too high?” in the February survey by the Environics Institute for Survey Research – a finding that has remained relatively stable for a decade. Eight-in-10 said immigrants have a positive economic impact. Compared with last year’s survey, more respondents believed that immigrants adopt Canadian values. Most of the national results extended a steady 30-year trend toward greater acceptance of immigrants.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada says it is slated to receive $747 million to support Canada’s 2018-2020 Immigration Levels Plan under the 2018 federal budget. In an email, IRCC spokesperson Lindsay Kemp said the additional funds “will ensure that we continue to manage the immigration system carefully and responsibly,” adding that the largest proportion will be used for settlement services.

More people are moving from Saskatchewan to other provinces than there are people from other provinces moving here, according to the latest data released by Statistics Canada — but the province’s population still grew last year. Claudine Provencher, an analyst with the demography division of Statistics Canada, said the growth was driven by international migration, meaning the province saw more immigrants, students, temporary workers and asylum seekers.
