Global News – Government Hiring Outside Contractor to Create Canada’s New Citizenship Test
The federal government is turning to the private sector to help draft the latest version of the Canadian citizenship test. A request for proposal went out on Tuesday morning, with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) explaining that it needs help to “develop a pool of (400) multiple choice official questions, a test blueprint, and 15 versions of the Canadian citizenship knowledge test.”
CBC News – ‘Trauma-Informed’ Daycare for Refugee Children Among New Child-Care Projects
The Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society’s planned daycare for 28 infants and children, in partnership with Family Services of Victoria, is among the projects eligible for provincial funding to create 948 new child-care spaces in Victoria and Vancouver Island communities. With help from the $371,173 in provincial funding, David Lau, executive director of VIRCS said, “we’re hoping to build a trauma-informed daycare service.” He said it is a model that was developed in Australia, although he is not aware of a similar daycare in Canada.

Karissa Warkentin, a Manitoba mother of five said she learned Tuesday that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has reversed its decision and approved the family’s application for permanent residency. Despite having invested more than $600,000 in the rural community of Waterhen, Man. — population 142 — and having the full support of their local school board, municipal council and the province, the family’s application for permanent residency was initially denied.
CBC News – ‘Give Us a Chance’: North Korea Defectors Ask to Stay in Canada
North Korean defectors living in Toronto shared chilling stories at a conference Monday night in an attempt to appeal to the government for a chance to stay in Canada. Scarborough-Rouge River MPP Raymond Cho headlined the conference, hoping to get the attention of the federal government. He said there had been about 3,000 North Korean refugees living in the GTA about two years ago but claims most were deported to South Korea.

La Cour suprême des États-Unis autorise l’application pleine et entière du décret migratoire de l’administration du président Donald Trump, qui interdit l’entrée au pays des ressortissants de six pays à majorité musulmane, d’ici à ce que le dossier soit jugé sur le fond. La majorité des juges du plus haut tribunal du pays ont affirmé lundi que le décret pouvait s’appliquer tel quel pendant que des tribunaux inférieurs étudient la légalité de la mesure.
