Through three presidents over a decade, young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” have emerged as a potent political force and the sympathetic public face of the immigration debate. President Trump, who ended the Obama-era deferred action program in September, has set a March 5 deadline for lawmakers to act before the bulk of the permits begin to expire at a rate of nearly 1,000 per day. Motivated anew, the dreamers are planning to ramp up the emotional, in-your-face demonstrations that have brought them to this precipice.

Since 2011, Canmax has faced a series of lawsuits from immigration customers who say the company made big promises but failed to deliver. In the wake of those concerns, Canmax changed its name to Wilson Legal Consulting in 2014.  But the company continued to operate out of the same Toronto office space with the other Canmax group of companies.

The parents of a 9-year-old Syrian refugee who was struck and killed by a bus in British Columbia on Friday thought their children were finally safe when they escaped the civil war in their homeland, says a volunteer who has helped the family. Several departments are investigating Hala’s death including the major crime unit and B.C. Commercial Vehicle Safety.

The Lawrence family has been living in Montreal for five years but is set to be deported to Sri Lanka on Sunday. The family says they have applied for refugee status but their application has been denied.

“The case got rejected because the war is over in Sri Lanka,” said Leon.
