Community groups from across Montreal say they are being stretched to the breaking point by the rise in asylum seekers and refugees settling in the city. “What we see is, on the ground, claimants going in places they would never go to ask for things that, normally, they would have access to,” said Eva Gracia-Turgeon. She is a co-ordinator with Foyer du Monde, a Montreal organization that offers temporary housing and support services to asylum seekers, refugees or those settling without status.

Radio-Canada – Immigration francophone : la cible enfin atteinte, il faut travailler à l’augmenter
La communauté fransaskoise se réjouit de l’augmentation du nombre d’immigrants francophones en Saskatchewan en 2022 et rappelle que la cible doit maintenant être plus ambitieuse. Lundi, le ministre de l’Immigration, des Réfugiés et de la Citoyenneté, Sean Fraser, a annoncé que, pour la première fois, le gouvernement du Canada a atteint la cible fixée pour l’immigration francophone hors Québec. En 2022, plus de 16 300 immigrants francophones se sont installés à l’extérieur du Québec, ce qui représente au total 4,4 % des immigrants. Là-dessus, 175 personnes se sont installées en Saskatchewan.

Pour les nouveaux arrivants, temporaires ou permanents, apprendre à parler français est plus difficile à faire qu’à dire, notamment lorsqu’ils travaillent à temps débordant. En produisant le documentaire Langue à l’ouvrage. Migrer vers le français au travail, la Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) a voulu envoyer un message : le meilleur endroit pour suivre des cours de français, pour une personne immigrante, c’est directement sur son lieu de travail, avec ses collègues.
