Aucune des 15 femmes à statut précaire qui se sont tournées vers la maison d’hébergement L’Inter-Elles à Québec depuis 2019 n’est parvenue à régulariser son statut migratoire. L’organisme à but non lucratif offre du logement de deuxième étape à des femmes et des enfants victimes de violence familiale. En attendant qu’Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada (IRCC) se prononcent sur leur statut, la majorité des ces femmes n’a aucun accès à des soins de santé et des services de garde ou n’a le droit de travailler au pays.

Joe Sbrocchi, general manager and executive director of Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, says they have to work out details such as how to house the family members, and he doesn’t know how many of the greenhouse growers would want to hire family teams. He says more consultation is needed with the federal government to work out issues. Consultation is what the federal government is proposing.
CBC News – Island Employers Welcome Immigrants in Tight Labour Market
Census figures released last week show the proportion of immigrants and non-permanent residents in the Island workforce almost doubled between 2016 and 2021, rising from 6.9 to 13.3 per cent. Despite that growing contribution, the job vacancy rate is still rising. At 6.4 per cent it is tied with Quebec for the second highest in the country.
National Post – ‘We’re Screwed’: Desperate Military Opens Door to Permanent Residents
Chief of the defence staff Gen. Wayne Eyre officially opened the military’s doors to all permanent residents in October, in direct response to an unprecedented personnel crisis that has left the Armed Forces scrambling for new recruits. The military says more than 2,400 people submitted applications in November, a number that the commander of the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group described on Wednesday as unexpected. The number is especially notable when considering the military received about 4,000 applications over the same period from Canadian citizens.
CTV News – Court Rules in Favour of Chinese Student Fighting to Study at Northern Ont. College
Pengyue Zhang applied in October 2021 for a study permit so he could enter Candadore’s construction project management program. But the application was denied on the basis that immigration officials were “not satisfied that the applicant would leave Canada at the end of his stay.” Pengyue appealed the decision to a federal court, arguing the decision wasn’t reasonable. The appeals court ruled in his favour, saying he had explained his reasons for coming to Canada and those reasons made sense.

Un nouveau kiosque d’information pour les immigrants a été officiellement inauguré à l’aéroport de Calgary mercredi et regroupe sous une même bannière huit organismes partenaires offrant des services aux nouveaux arrivants. Deux représentants de huit organismes partenaires y accueillent les nouveaux arrivants pour leur expliquer les services disponibles et les aider à trouver les ressources dont ils ont besoin. Il n’y a pas de personne francophone au kiosque en permanence, mais Hervé Stéclebout espère que cela changera.
