Cette phrase figure au milieu d’une réponse du gouvernement fédéral, donc du ministre de l’Immigration Sean Fraser, à un rapport publié à la fin du printemps réalisé par le Comité permanent de la citoyenneté et de l’immigration (CIMM).

“I will remember the morning of Feb. 24 all my life,” says Tanya Kriuchkova, a Ukrainian refugee who has settled in Kingston. Their departure involved a two-day train ride to Germany, where they stayed for several months while waiting for a visa. They eventually made their way to Napanee, Ont. in July to meet up with family. Since then, they have received plenty of support from local organizations like the Ukrainian Canadian Club of Kingston, run by Lubomir and Nadia Luciuk.

Thousands across Canada are calling for the government to live up to a commitment to give permanent residency status to people living in limbo in the country. In Toronto, demonstrators marched Sunday to the downtown constituency office of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, chanting, “What do we want? Status for all! When do we want it? Now!” They covered her office door with posters calling for immediate permanent residency status for all undocumented migrants in Canada and those with a “temporary” status.

For Syrian newcomers Rawa Alhamdo Alkhalil and Khaled Al Aboud, getting their four children into Calgary’s school system as quickly as possible is vital to the entire family’s success. At first, the family stayed in a hotel run by the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society that houses refugees brought here by the federal government. Some families end up staying there for months while they complete paperwork and get set up to start their new lives in Canada. It leaves hundreds of children waiting weeks, and in many cases months, before they can get anywhere near a classroom.
CBC News – N.L. Photographer Wins International Award but Can’t Accept It Due to Visa Red Tape
Ting Ting Chen is a student at Memorial University. This year, Chen’s photo was selected as the overall winner in the non-professional category (single image) of the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards. Chen said her solo exhibition would be made up entirely of photos of Newfoundland and Labrador and the people she has met there. But instead of showing Newfoundland off in Spain, she has spent three months fighting to be allowed to come back to Canada after the show.

Ukrainian refugee Tetiana Yareamchua, originally from Mariupol, has been in Canada for about four months. She says her home city is in ruins, but her parents are still there. “It is not easy to start a new life from the very beginning, but we tried our very best,” said Yareamchua. “We are happy to escape.” She was one of about two-dozen Ukrainians who protested the war in Halifax’s Peace and Friendship Park Saturday afternoon.
