The YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region is expanding a skilled trades program in five additional regions across Ontario, the organization announced on Sept. 7. ‘Power of Trades’ is a program that prepares immigrants for opportunities in Ontario’s skilled trades. It was created in 2011 to connect new Canadians with the information they need to consider a career in the trades, along with help accessing the skills training required to take the next step in their career path.

Le Manitoba a sélectionné moins de 200 dossiers d’immigrants francophones dans le cadre du Programme des candidats du Manitoba (PCM), selon le dernier rapport annuel portant sur 2021, et rate encore sa cible d’immigration francophone fixée à 7 %. Seuls 170 dossiers francophones ont été sélectionnés par la province. C’est moins qu’en 2018, où 235 dossiers avaient été sélectionnés, et qu’en 2019, où ce nombre s’élevait à 190.

Bien qu’un pas ait été franchi pour l’équité et l’inclusion dans les écoles francophones de l’Ontario, les démarches doivent continuer. Deux études menées sur la question dans deux écoles du Grand Toronto explorent des pistes de solutions, afin d’améliorer le bienêtre des élèves dans les établissements de langue française de la province. Les deux études ont été faites par la sociologue Diane Farmer, également professeure à l’Université de Toronto.

Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) leader François Legault has no intention of making Quebec grow to “10, 20, 30 million” inhabitants. The night before, during a special broadcast on Radio-Canada, Legault had brushed aside questions about the demographic weight of Quebec in Canada, which could decrease in the coming years. The CAQ proposes reducing Quebec’s annual threshold of 50,000 immigrants.
