On Thursday, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser toured an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship office in New Waterford, N.S., that will soon add 41 full-time equivalent jobs. Fraser has said a total 1,250 workers will be hired as Canada looks to tackle a record-high number of immigration applicants. “[The] message that we’re trying to send to people who are thinking of coming to Canada is that we want you here,” said Fraser.

While foreign students are well-represented in STEM and business administration, their numbers need to go up in health care, some trades and services to meet Canada’s future labour market needs, says the report from RBC Economics & Thought Leadership. Tweaking immigration selection to favour international students with a background in STEM, health care and in trades, and providing these students more work-integrated learning opportunities through co-ops or internships would go a long way, the researchers say.

En date du 22 août, 1054 étudiants réguliers étaient inscrits au Collège d’Alma, tandis qu’ils étaient 1072 à pareille date l’an dernier.

De manière générale, il est montré que le poids du français s’est amoindri dans tout le pays. Si certains acteurs de terrain sont critiques à l’égard des gouvernements qui ont failli en matière d’immigration francophone, d’autres restent optimistes.
