For the past month or so, a similar scene has played out most Tuesdays, when the weekly Condor flight from Frankfurt, Germany — the only direct flight from Europe to land north of 60 — touches down.

An international student says she ran out of money and spent months in distress after coming to Canada because an immigration official didn’t give her the right document allowing her to work part time while studying in northern Ontario. Shreya Rajput arrived from India on Dec. 17 to study information technology at Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie. It was only last Friday that Shreya Rajput learned she’s finally able to get a social insurance number, something she couldn’t apply for until she had the right study document.

Les temps d’attente pour une foule de services gouvernementaux, y compris en matière de passeports, de documents d’immigration et de transport aérien, sont en baisse, ont assuré lundi de nombreux ministres fédéraux. Le nombre de permis de travail délivrés a plus que triplé entre janvier et juillet par rapport à la même période un an plus tôt. Et le nombre de nouveaux citoyens canadiens accueillis est passé de 35 000 à 116 000.
Global News – Host Volunteers Needed in Calgary to House Ukrainians Fleeing the War
As the bloody war in Ukraine churns on, so does the need for Canadians to open their doors to those fleeing it. The Calgary Catholic Immigration Society is putting a call out for volunteers. “With the increase in numbers of Ukrainian arrivals in the past few weeks we are desperately looking for more volunteer host families,” said Mariana Solomchak, project manager of Ukrainian Services for Calgary Catholic Immigration Society.
CBC News – New Program to Fast-Track Driver’s Licences for Some P.E.I. Immigrants
Experienced drivers moving to P.E.I. from some foreign countries will soon be able to earn their full Class 5 licence without spending at least a year in the graduated program. The province is working on a program with driving schools. Once they have their full Class 5, they are able to apply for classification to become commercial drivers — for example, a taxi or truck driver.
