En 2021, les Réseaux en immigration francophone de l’Ontario se sont associés pour lancer une campagne de lutte contre le racisme et la discrimination. Un an plus tard, l’initiative se concrétise par la publication d’une bande dessinée et de trois capsules vidéos, outils pratiques pour une stratégie qui veut rendre visible l’invisible. La vingtaine de planches dessinées, rassemblées en un ouvrage intitulé Que notre collectivité gagne! : rendre visible l’invisible, et le trio de balados vidéos ont donc vu le jour ce printemps.

Two charter flights scheduled to leave Islamabad for Canada carrying Afghan refugees failed to depart Pakistan this week, CBC News has learned. “That was quite disappointing; to find out that the flight was cancelled,” said Jameel Haqmall, a former Canadian NGO employee who fled Afghanistan in May with his family after months of living in hiding. “Everything was packed, everyone was in the mood of travelling,” he told CBC News from his hotel room in Islamabad on Wednesday morning. Then came the tersely worded email from the United Nations International Organization for Migration, listing Haqmall’s name and that of his 23 family members.

Last week’s 5.9-magnitude earthquake killed an estimated 770 people, injured 1,500 and affected another 250,000 Afghans in a remote southeastern region near the Pakistani border. The disaster worsens an already challenging humanitarian crisis, including famine and a collapsing health system, that has devastated Afghanistan since the Taliban took power last August. The Taliban have called on international governments to lift a freeze on central-bank assets and roll back sanctions in the aftermath of the earthquake, but many Western countries continue to shun the group over concerns about human-rights abuses.
According to the Department of Health, some applicants have been waiting more than 15 weeks for their information to be processed. Others, including those with expired cards, are experiencing a shorter waiting period of about 11 weeks. Spokesperson Michelle Guenard said the backlog is due to a record number of immigrants settling in New Brunswick and a historic wave of Canadians moving east, and many New Brunswickers who hadn’t realized their cards were expired until they tried to register for a COVID vaccine on the MyHealthNB website.
