IRCC doit modifier plusieurs aspects dans le but d’améliorer sa stratégie en matière d’immigration francophone, note un rapport d’élus d’Ottawa. Le Comité permanent de la citoyenneté et de l’Immigration émet 35 recommandations à IRCC et au ministre Sean Fraser pour, notamment, régler le problème autour des permis d’études des étudiants africains francophones. Le comité avance qu’une meilleure collaboration entre les différentes institutions et gouvernements et les établissements postsecondaires francophones serait bénéfique pour atteindre la cible de nouveaux arrivants francophones de 4,4 %.

The federal government is extending funding for the National Newcomer Navigation Network (N4), a program that aims to help newcomers to Canada navigate social and medical services, MP Marie-France Lalonde announced at a press conference outside CHEO Monday. “It is with great pleasure that I announce a one-year extension of funding totalling just about $1.5 million, to further support the work of N4,” said Lalonde.
Starting on July 1, consultants like Molitor can only represent clients before the IRB if they have passed the new specialization exam of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, which became the profession’s official regulator in August. Consultants who haven’t yet sat for the exam will be prohibited from taking on new clients with matters before the IRB — and must also stop representing current clients, leaving some scramble to find new counsel or risk lacking representation.
Volunteers play a very different role than settlement agencies and their counsellors. Volunteers make themselves available to field questions from how to deal with mail and bills to explaining how banking works and using computers. There are also questions relating to learning and speaking English, even helping kids get to their soccer games — just helping to make sense of day-to-day life in Calgary.
