Immigration lawyers are reporting a surge of interests among Russians about coming to Canada as students, foreign workers or permanent residents. Some lawyers representing already pending immigration applicants, meanwhile, are concerned about how their files would be affected by Canada and Russia’s now-strained relationship. Most inquirers are looking for fast-track options, which is not easy because applicants are all subject to biometrics, language test and background checks.
CBC News – McMaster Researchers Looking for Ways to Improve Transit for Older, Immigrant Adults
A research team is examining public transit and the challenges and barriers it can present to people 55 and older who are newer to Canada. But, the researchers say, they’ve had some trouble finding participants and hope more will come forward. Shaila Jamal, a PhD candidate, is working on the project under the supervision of Bruce Newbold, a professor and the director of the school of earth, environment and society.

Ils habitent l’une des 14 villes désignées pour l’accueil des réfugiés au Québec. Ils sont âgés de 12 à 25 ans et vivent des défis d’intégration propres à leur âge. Mais ce qui distingue le plus ces jeunes, c’est leur expérience de réfugiés venus ici de différents pays d’Afrique, d’Asie, d’Amérique du Sud ou du Moyen-Orient, pour trouver la paix et la sécurité au Québec. Ces 28 jeunes ont identifié 27 recommandations qui faciliteraient l’intégration de jeunes, comme eux, qui arriveraient pour s’installer au Québec dans des conditions qu’ils connaissent bien.
CTV News – Feds Considering Incentives for Canadians Looking to Help Incoming Ukrainians
In an interview on CTV’s Question Period, Fraser was asked whether Canada is considering implementing a program similar to what the U.K. is doing—offering households monthly payments for opening their homes to Ukrainian refugees—and he said that “everything is on the table right now.” The immigration minister said he wouldn’t rule out a tax credit as an example of a way the government could incentivize Canadians to help in what could become a massive resettlement effort, even on a temporary basis.
CBC News – Demonstrators March in Downtown Ottawa for Migrants, Refugees
Dozens of demonstrators marched from the Human Rights Monument in downtown Ottawa to the office of Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada Sunday, calling on the federal government to grant full and permanent immigration status to migrants, refugees and undocumented people. According to organizers, the 1.6-kilometre march symbolized the roughly 1.6 million residents in Canada without permanent status.

Pour maintenir le poids démographique actuel des francophones hors Québec d’ici 2036, il faudrait que la cible d’immigration francophone dans les communautés de langue officielle en situation minoritaire (CLOSM) grimpe à 8 %, soit près du double de la cible actuelle de 4,4 % visée par IRCC et plus que quatre fois le pourcentage (1,95 %) de nouveaux résidents permanents francophones accueillis en 2021 dans les CLOSM. C’est ce qu’a révélé la Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne (FCFA) du Canada au cours du premier évènement du Symposium annuel sur l’immigration francophone, qui en est cette année à sa 15e édition.
