Global News – At an Islamabad Hotel, Afghans Who Worked for Canada’s Military Await a New Life
A consortium of non-profit groups run by Canadian military veterans said they were in contact with more than 10,000 Afghans who had applied to come to Canada under the federal government’s special immigration program. Since Canada ended evacuation flights in August, the veterans have been able to extract a few hundred of them, but 1,700 remain in Kabul safe houses. “They don’t have a route out at the moment,” said Tim Laidler, who served in Afghanistan and now heads the Veterans Transition Network, one of the groups helping the Afghans.

But this year, schools in New Brunswick are trying to find a better way to integrate newcomer students into school life. The students are offered a so-called prep-year, where they still go to school but have a modified curriculum, where they learn the language and the culture first.

Pour mieux inclure les nouveaux arrivants et ainsi solidifier les communautés francophones en situation minoritaire (CFSM), il faudra accepter de se montrer vulnérables et développer des compétences interculturelles. C’est ce qu’ont suggéré les panélistes de la table ronde «Les CFSM et la cohésion sociale dans un contexte de diversité», le jeudi 7 octobre. Ils ont également souligné l’importance d’aller à la rencontre des immigrants avec la volonté de les intégrer à la francophonie locale plutôt que d’attendre qu’ils viennent d’eux-mêmes, puisqu’ils ont déjà tant à comprendre de leur nouveau lieu d’accueil.
Radio-Canada – Québec lance une mission historique de recrutement d’infirmières à l’étranger
Devant l’importante pénurie de personnel dans le réseau, le ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux a reçu le mandat de recruter plus de 4000 travailleurs de la santé à l’étranger, surtout des infirmières. Du jamais-vu. On peut donc bel et bien parler d’une explosion de la demande de main-d’œuvre. En 2019-2020, les établissements québécois n’avaient donné que 330 mandats à Recrutement Santé Québec, puis 1700 en 2020-2021.
