Les Estables — Le chef de la droite française, Laurent Wauquiez, a estimé dimanche que « l’immigration de masse » était « une menace culturelle pour la civilisation européenne » et que les Français refusaient de « devenir étrangers dans leur propre pays ». « Comment ne pas comprendre que nous sommes au bout de nos capacités d’intégration et que cette immigration de masse est aujourd’hui une menace culturelle pour la civilisation européenne ? », a lancé le président du parti Les Républicains (LR) devant environ 1500 personnes lors de sa rentrée politique en Haute-Loire (centre-est). « Nous ne devons plus laisser ces bateaux [humanitaires] rentrer dans les ports européens », a encore prôné M. Wauquiez.
CBC News – Motion from N.L. Conservatives to Axe Birthright Citizenship Against Canadian Values, Says Professor
Two federal Conservative district associations in St. John’s presented a resolution to support the elimination of birthright citizenship for refugees and immigrants. The resolution was presented at the Conservative Party convention this weekend in Halifax and called for the party to encourage the government to stop granting citizenship to anyone born on Canadian soil and instead require at least one parent to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. It was narrowly accepted by a vote on Saturday afternoon.
CBC News – Case Challenging Road Test Wait-Time for Refugees Goes Before Human Rights Tribunal Today
Shyesh Al-Turki was a truck driver in his hometown of Aleppo, Syria. But because of the civil war, he fled to Canada as a refugee with his family at the end of 2016. Al-Turki is now trying to get his Ontario driver’s licence, but, because of a transportation ministry policy, he is forced to start from ground zero. Hassan Ahmad, the lawyer representing Al-Turki, is bringing Al-Turki’s case to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario today to challenge the Ontario government, claiming its policy discriminates against refugees.
National Post – Canada’s Backlogged Asylum System Is ‘Not Sustainable,’ Immigration Minister Says in Leaked Letter
“Without changes to improve efficiency and productivity of the asylum process, wait times and backlogs will only continue to grow,” Hussen writes in the Aug. 14 letter, addressed to the Canadian Bar Association. “This situation is not sustainable, nor is it fair to the people who need Canada’s protection.” The language is unusually strong for Hussen, who speaks often about Canada’s “strict and efficient immigration and border-control system.”

Le Tribunal des droits de la personne de l’Ontario entend un cas de discrimination au sujet des réfugiés qui avaient une expérience de conducteur dans leur pays en guerre, avant de venir au Canada. La cause porte sur la plainte d’un réfugié syrien qui est arrivé au Canada en 2016, mais qui ne peut obtenir dans l’immédiat un permis régulier en vertu d’un règlement du ministère provincial des Transports.
